Baptism, Communion & Confirmation
Holy Baptism “is the sacrament by which God adopts us as His children and makes us members of Christ’s Body, the church, and inheritors of His kingdom” (Book of Common Prayer, 858). The water – the outward and visible sign – in which a person is baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, unites us with Christ’s death and resurrection. Through baptism, we are birthed into God’s family, the church; we receive forgiveness of sins, and begin a new life in the Holy Spirit – the inward and spiritual grace (BCP). Those interested in the sacrament of holy baptism for either themselves, their children or grandchildren are encouraged to contact the rector through the parish office.
First Holy Communion What is required of us when we come to the Eucharist? It is required that we should examine our lives, repent of our sins, and be in love and charity with all people. (The Book of Common Prayer, pg. 860)
Before preparing to receive Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, children of Christ Church Woodbury come to know and love Him at an age appropriate level. Therefore, children preparing for First Holy Communion are invited to complete one full semester of religious education, to be regular in their Mass attendance, and participate in their second consecutive year of religious education through our Sunday school program. For more information about our First Holy Communion curriculum, please contact the parish office at (856) 845-0190.
Confirmation “is the rite through which we express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop” (Book of Common Prayer, 860). To be confirmed, one must first be baptized, and complete a course of instruction in the doctrines, disciplines, and traditions of the Episcopal Church. Those entering high school are eligible for confirmation.
If you, or someone you know, are interested in being “duly prepared” for the sacrament of confirmation, please contact the parish office at (856) 845-0190.
